Could you go over pre-assigning breakout rooms?
Leonard Register
21:33
Are headphones for the computer better than the computer mic and speaker?
Shaun Gordon
21:56
Juan- Danny will discuss breakout rooms and we have an article that discusses pre-assigning https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360032752671-Pre-assigning-participants-to-breakout-rooms
Mario Guerra Jr
22:15
Danny, can I speak for a sec?
Matt Mangum

@Leonard, that is usually a good idea
Shaun Gordon
22:39
Leonard- Headphones are recommended for better audio experience
Andrew Dillon
23:04
Can we use outside Canvas? And if so, is it very different to use?
Danny Mariscal
23:14
Andrew, yes
Suzanne
24:28
Could you explain more about how to set up breakout groups?
Mario Guerra Jr
24:33
Danny, is there any support for Sections in Canvas?
Danny Mariscal
25:09
@Suzanne we will review this later
Samantha Wilson
25:15
Is there an option in Canvas Zoom to schedule a meeting with certain students only? Or is it always for all students in the course?
Ciaran Trace
25:15
Will the meetings be populated in Calendar as well?
Alison Frazier
25:25
I am interested in Canvas Conferences. Also want to know about utility of in-Canvas tool Piazza. Thanks!
Hirofumi Tanaka
25:25
When I copy the invitation and paste it onto my e-mail, calendar addition does not show up. What can I do to make the calendar addition to show up in the invitation?
James Hollingsworth
25:28
are all participants automatically notified when the meeting is created or are they notified at a later time?
Brady Cox
26:04
To clarify: the students will not receive an email about the zoom meeting, they will have to proactively log into Canvas and click on the Zoom menu?
Liza Lewis
27:07
I’m on Moody, too, and received the same message.
Jorge Zapata
27:43
Hi, I'm a TA at the School of Architecture. I did a test in Zoom with my professor and we were having trouble setting me as a Co-Host to moderate discussions. Do you know how can we make that work?
jdalthorp
27:46
what is the largest number of students per zoom meeting is there a bandwidth problem
Navid Saleh
27:54
I have 4 sections, and I meet with them for lecture at the same time on Mon and Wed. Can I schedule the zoom meeting for all these sections for the same time?
Susan Staricka
28:12
IF I HAVE A GUEST LECTURER, HOW WILL THEY ACCESS? I ASSUME NOT THROUGH CANVAS.
BSullivan
28:15
Will we learn how to pre-record a lecture in Zoom or will we be doing pre-recorded only on Ponopo (sp?)
Samantha Wilson
28:26
Thank you!
Danny Mariscal
28:43
@susan please copy the invitation and send it via email
Danny Mariscal
29:06
@Bsullivan recording will be covered later.
Haris Vikalo
29:31
What is the purpose of “Use Personal Meeting ID ###” option (not shown on Danny’s screen)?
Monica Meadows
29:44
Is there still a calendar link for Calendar on the Mac?
Jay Mohammed
29:45
@Jorge - This link may help: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206330935-Enabling-and-adding-a-co-host
Jorge Zapata
30:44
Thank you!
Chikako Cooke
31:41
Can you select few students only to watch zoom recording?

Kim Thrower
32:15
will you discuss the Personal Meeting Room?
Kim Thrower
32:26
thanks!
Suzanne
32:33
How do I create breakout groups?
Leonard Register
32:48
Is there a way to observe students during an exam, but not let them see or hear each other?
Shaun Gordon
33:19
Chikako- It is recommended they download the Zoom Client but they can still join from their browser https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115005666383-Show-a-Join-from-your-browser-Link
Mario Guerra Jr
33:31
@Leonard, we would recommend using Proctorio for exam security
Jay Mohammed
33:38
@jdalthorp - The maximum students allowed is default to 300 for EDU plans though you can ask your administrator to lift that max if needed. Bandwidth is not an issue, as Zoom uses dynamic routing for routing traffic. Essentially, each users experience is determined by their own connection. The whole experience is not impacted if some users have a poor connection
Andrew Dillon
34:00
Can we use a downloaded version of Zoom outside of the browser?
Mario Guerra Jr
34:13
Information about Proctorio can be found at https://utexas.instructure.com/courses/633028/pages/exam-security-with-proctorio
Nick Bestor
34:22
I’m also in Moody, but I can’t find this guidance that we should limit synchronous teaching to 30 minutes. Anyone who got that email, could you let me know what subject line was?
Matt Mangum
34:51
@Andrew yes, reccommended in fact
Andrew Dillon
35:03
thanks

36:32
Nick and Erna, I'm also in Moody, and I don't have that email instruction, either.
Jonathan Pereira
38:01
can all these settings be accessed from the desktop app?
Shaun Gordon
38:59
Jonathan- most of the settings are located where Danny is showing. You do not have to come here and manage them frequently
Chikako Cooke
39:45
For chatting setting, is it possible to make sure to be able to upload file?
Chikako Cooke
40:20
some chat, I can send file; but, sometimes not file option. I don’t know why? Be able to with setting?
Matt Mangum
40:29
top left i icon > copy URL
Mario Guerra Jr
40:44
@chikako, yes, file transfer is a meeting setting
Hirofumi Tanaka
40:57
Yesterday after I had a Zoom meeting in the PM, I received many e-mails telling me that so and so was on and so and so was on. How do you disable that?
Chikako Cooke
41:00
OK. I will check later.
Chikako Cooke
41:10
Thanks, Hirofumi san.
Jay Mohammed
41:11
@James - regarding you question about recording, yes, it will always announce the meeting is being recorded for consent protection
Mario Guerra Jr
41:35
Actually Jay, that setting has been disabled
Mario Guerra Jr
41:49
Consent will not be displayed by default
Shaun Gordon
41:58
@ Hirofumi - You can disable the emails on your settings tab https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362713--Your-Attendees-Are-Waiting-Email-Notification
Jay Mohammed
42:11
Thank for clarification Mario!
Mario Guerra Jr
42:20
@Danny
Mario Guerra Jr
42:24
We turned that of
Chikako Cooke
42:28
Thanks, Shoun Gordon.
C Elizalde
43:57
Did I understand correctly that with the personal meeting ID, anyone can join the meeting?
C Elizalde
44:37
can you tell us how to get PowerPoint on the screen with your pic in the corner of the screen?
Andrew Dillon
45:07
If setting up outside of canvas, do we need to input student details/mail address etc individually?
Matt Mangum
45:16
unless you p/w protect https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360033559832-Meeting-and-Webinar-Passwords-
Shaun Gordon
45:56
@Andrew - yes, you would need to send them the invite manually via email/calendar invite
Mario Guerra Jr
46:32
@Andrew, or post it as an announcement in Canvas
Samantha Wilson
46:34
Why wouldn’t someone have the option to “Share Screen”? A faculty member I’m working with did not have the option to share her screen with me when we were on a Zoom meeting together. Is this something in settings she can change to have the option to share her screen?
Ciaran Trace
47:47
I tried that. It doesn't work. LOL!
Matt Mangum
49:05
@Gurpreet Panopto might be your solution
lisadegraff
49:15
I am curious if there is a practice feature where I can see what I am doing, how I am doing from a student’s perspective without using real people.
Mario Guerra Jr
49:35
More info on Panopto at https://itlab.ischool.utexas.edu/panopto-guide/
David Springer
49:37
Danny, Can you quickly show us how to create pre-assigned breakout rooms for students to have discussions in small groups during class?
Shaun Gordon
50:50
David- I’m not sure if Danny will be able to get to that but we have a great article that has instructions https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360032752671-Pre-assigning-participants-to-breakout-rooms
Andrew Dillon
51:11
should we close other apps when running a meeting or does it not matter if you auto adjust stream quality?
Monica Meadows
54:07
How did you Spotlight yourself? Can we spotlight others?
Shaun Gordon
54:54
@Monica- only the host can spotlight videos. You can Pin Videos for yourself https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362743-Pin-Video
Jay Mohammed
55:52
@Andrew - I typically do not have to close my other apps (I’m guilty of having a lot of programs open at once also!), though if high CPU is an issue, closing other apps will help
Nick Bestor
56:51
Is there any sort of attendance functionality? Like could I automatically mark people as present to give them credit?
Susan Staricka
57:08
HOW DO STUDENTS RAISE THEIR HAND AGAIN?
Jay Mohammed
57:24
Hi @Lisadegraff - Regarding your question about practicing. What I’ve done in the past is joined a meeting from my computer and smartphone. This will allow you to view the experience from the computer and smartphone, and see how it looks on the other end!
Shaun Gordon
58:43
@Susan- on the participant tab they will be able to see the nonverbal feedback https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115001286183-Nonverbal-Feedback-During-Meetings
Jay Mohammed
59:05
@Nick - The best way to keep attendance might be to use the report after the meeting. The reports will show when people joined the meeting and when they left. There is also a feature called “attention tracker” that allows you to see how much the students had their Zoom window in the for front (or how much they were looking at their browser during your class!) Once enabled, this would show up in the report also
Chikako Cooke
59:20
Used to be able to see speaker or gallery option; but, now, I cannot see the option anymore. Where can I see
Nick Bestor
59:33
You mentioned transcripts before, but are there any good options for live captioning? Other than having someone typing it up
Matt Mangum
59:57
@Kara, this is where Proctorio comes in
Mario Guerra Jr
01:00:15
@Kara, I would recommend you take a look at Proctorio for exam proctoring. https://utexas.instructure.com/courses/633028/pages/exam-security-with-proctorio

01:00:33

@leonard there are workshops on Proctorio that you can attend https://utexas.instructure.com/courses/633028/pages/office-hours-and-workshops
Jay Mohammed
01:04:29
@Claire - Yes!
Loren Schriefer
01:04:31
@ Monica, move your curser onto the Zoom window. You will see a green box that says you are viewing Danny’s screen. Next to that there is a drop down that says “View Options”. Annotate is an option under that.
Loren Schriefer
